The Something Borrowed Blues

"Find something borrowed."

This pesky three-word sentence has been staring back at me from our to-do list for several months. The line once included "old," "new" and "blue" as well, but I've edited out these adjectives as each item joined my ensemble.

I'll be using two somethings old -- and one will be doing double duty as my something blue. And a number of somethings new will be part of my look, including my two veils, two pairs of shoes, gown and wedding ring. But I'm still stumped on a something borrowed -- and simultaneously frustrated, upset and (slightly) panicked as our date approaches.

Mama Bruschetta and I had a brainstorming session the other day, but we didn't have any lightbulb moments. I've ruled out borrowing jewelry -- I'll post about what my plan for accessories is soon, I promise! -- since I'm aiming for a classic style, and don't want anything that's just too too. And I'm not even sure what, if any, family possessions my mother or aunts have that might lend themselves to being a something borrowed. I'm also a little wary of attaching a borrowed item to my bouquet handle, fearing it'll fall off. (Remember? I worry lots!)

I'm completely open to any suggestions from the hive, though -- and wish I could give bonus points for the most creative idea! What is/was your something borrowed?

Baby Blue

According to Mama Bruschetta, the hospital gift shop didn't carry little-girl-pink pins. So, she purchased one of the light blue ones. Her handwritten edit -- replacing "boy" on the enclosed card with "girl" -- completed the package celebrating the second Bruschetta daughter...me!

BruschettAunt Cino also hopped on board the baby memento train. Her contribution? A baby bonnet for my christening. A card explained the purpose of this lacey, white, beribboned bonnet:
This is a most important gift for a newborn baby girl to receive. By saving the cap and restoring it to its original shape as a wedding handkerchief, this becomes a beautiful heirloom gift for a very special baby to use when she is a bride.
Again, thanks to Mama Bruschetta, this keepsake is also in mint condition, and ready to make an appearance at the Bruschetta wedding. I've already owned up to -- at times -- being an overemotional little hors d'oeuvre though, so I wonder if I shouldn't actually use the handkerchief for its intended purpose. What say you, hive?

Two somethings old and one something blue -- both 25 years in the making!

What are your somethings old, new, borrowed and blue?

Something Blue

Bogged down by the winter doldrums, it's tough to realize that summer is rapidly approaching. But the mister and I can practically taste the warmer months -- perhaps because we're starting to select our signature cocktails to be served at the wedding!

With under six months to go, we're still debating between some of our favorite potent potables. Gin and tonics, though, are definitely in -- featuring Philly's own Bluecoat gin.

Mr. Bruschetta and I were first introduced to Bluecoat at Cork, one of our favorite restaurants. The local libation was prominently displayed on the bar, and a friendly customer enthused about the flavor it brought to his g & t.

I love the idea of personalizing as much of a wedding as possible to the bride and groom's tastes. So naturally, I'm looking forward to sharing this something blue with our family and friends in August.

Now it's your turn: What's your favorite summer cocktail?
